Gift verses Choice

Paradox of Gift and Choice: Navigating the Boundaries.

From a Christian perspective, God gave us free will because He created us in His image and the ability to choose. In Genesis 1:27 [27]God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Which suggests that we share some of God’s characteristics and abilities, including the ability to make choices.

Talent, therefore, can be seen as a gift from God that He has entrusted us to use as we see fit. God wants us to use our talents for His glory, but He also wants us to have the freedom to choose how we use them. This means that we can use our talents for selfish or harmful purposes, or we can use them to serve others and bring glory to God.

The Bible also tells us that God gives different talents to different people in 1 Corinthians 12:4

[4]Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. Our choices determine how we use those talents and how successful we are in fulfilling God’s plans for our lives.

Ultimately, the Christian perspective is that God gives us talent as a gift (Grace), but it is our responsibility to use it wisely and for His purposes. The choices we make determine how effectively we use our talents and how much we glorify God in the process.

That is a valid concern. It is true that in today’s society, there is often a strong emphasis on success, fame, and money. This can make it challenging for individuals to discover their talents and how to serve God and others.

God has a unique plan and purpose for each individual’s life in (Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. This means that He has placed within each person specific gifts, talents, and passions that can be used to serve others.

To discover these talents and how to use them for God’s glory, it is important to seek a deeper relationship with God. Through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other Christians, individuals can gain clarity and direction on best using their gifts and talents to serve God and others.

Additionally, it is essential to prioritise values over worldly success. This means putting God and serving others first, rather than seeking to accumulate wealth and status. By doing so, individuals can experience true fulfillment and joy in using their talents to make a positive impact on the world.
